Adopt a Resident
 Adopt-a-Resident is a program that links volunteer Year 10 students with residents at two local aged care facilities, Benhome and Largs Lodge. The program was initiated in 2001 to celebrate International Year of the Volunteer and has received a Director-General's School Achievement Award.
Students and residents form friendships and learn from each other. Students gain an insight into the aged care industry and add value to the resident's day. Students gain knowledge of life in another generation and very often learn valuable history lessons. Residents look forward to our visits and enjoy talking to the younger generation.
The program culminates in a Seniors Concert and morning tea at school when residents of all local aged care facilities attend a concert organised by the music department. The students from the Adopt-a-Resident program host the residents and cater for the morning tea.
The program is coordinated by Mrs Lee Osborne and Mrs Karen Goward. |
