The NSW Minerals Council (NSWMC), Newcrest Mining - Cadia Valley Operations, Xstrata Coal, BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal, Gujarat NRE Coking Coal and Muswellbrook Coal invite eligible senior secondary students to apply for a 2011 Minerals Education Bursary (MEBS). Year 11 and Year 12 students from Maitland Grossmann High School are eligible to apply.

Bursary recipients will receive a cash grant of $500 for Year 11 students and $1,000 for Year 12 students. Secondary school bursary holders who go on to complete the first year of an undergraduate degree in a designated minerals related tertiary course within 12 months of completing their schooling will then receive a $2,000 undergraduate bursary. Bursary holders are still eligible to apply for other scholarships at university. To be eligible to remain a bursary holder, students must participate in a minimum of 2 MEBS related activities conducted by NSWMC or member companies. MEBS activities may include open days at mine sites or universities; company events; career expos organised or conducted by the minerals industry; mentoring programs; minerals careers dinners; work experience and „Minerals School Cluster‟ activities.
