Year 10 Engineering students recently completed the task of designing, manufacturing and testing a working model of the medieval siege weapon, the Trebuchet.

In groups, students investigated the detailed Engineering principles involved in the operation of these impressive weapons of the past. They studied how medieval Engineers used the transfer of energy to hurl massive boulders over castle walls and gain an important military advantage against their opponents. The year 10 students then applied this understanding to construct their own scale model of a Trebuchet.

After some thorough and competitive testing, the group of Pat Maffey, Ben Bartlett and Chris Hudson proved to have the winning design. Their small Trebuchet was able to launch a ping pong ball over 4 metres, beating several other groups by only a few centimetres.

Congratulations to the winners, Pat, Ben and Chris, and to all Year 10 Engineering students who undertook this challenging task and produced such impressive results.
