AV 210 ROO
Root of all Evil? (Compass): “The God delusion” / “The virus of faith” (ABC) (In this series, Professor Richard Dawkins accuses the three main religions – Christianity, Islam and Judaism – of beliefs that defy science, and of stunting the mind’s capacity for understanding. He embarks on a personal, controversial and, at times, humorous journey to prove that religion is the root of all evil.)
AV 269 GOD
God on my side (ABC) (DVD) (Andrew Denton’s film about faith and the places it can take people)
AV 294.3 SCI
Guge: the lost kingdom of Tibet (Discovery Channel)
AV 296.1 DEA
Compass: “Surrogate mums” (ABC) (By following the deeply personal journeys of two families and their surrogate mothers Compass examines the complexities of this controversial new way of creating a family.)
AV 300 CUT.6
The Cutting Edge: “Saved by the sun” (SBS) (Looks at the use of photovoltaic panels in homes and documents their economic benefits. Rising energy demands, dwindling global fossil fuel resources, and heightened public concern for global warming all contribute to the need for alternative energy sources like solar energy.)
AV 300 DIF.2
Difference Of Opinion: “The way ahead” (ABC) (The future of the world’s oldest continuous culture. Australia’s 460,000 Indigenous people are again facing dramatic changes in government policy. In a Federal election year, striking differences are emerging between the major parties in their approach to the way forward. In a rare televised gathering of some of the most significant voices in the Aboriginal debate, Difference of Opinion asks is there a new and more hopeful vision for the worlds oldest continuous culture?)
AV 300 DIF.3
Difference Of Opinion: “Growing up in the digital age” (ABC) (Generation Y is the first generation to have grown up from scratch with a mouse in one hand and a mobile in the other. So how is the digital revolution affecting our teens and twenty somethings? How has modern technology shaped their lives? And what sort of people is the age of email, Internet, text and Youtube producing?)
Four Corners: “The home front” (ABC) (While politicians clash noisily over global warming and how to fight it, millions of Australians are trying modestly to cut their energy use, to be a small part of a big solution. But their efforts to save energy at home are being retarded by vested interests and a bewildering variety of rules and rebates, local, state and federal.)
AV 300 FOU.L
Four Corners: “Tough calls” (ABC) (Exploration of crunch workplace issues inside Telstra: the impact on staff of a shift from a customer service to a sales culture, the setting of ever-increasing performance targets and rigorous monitoring of individuals’ time and movements.)
AV 300 INS.9
Insight: “On the money” (SBS) (Money makes the world go around, and it seems the Federal Government is swimming in it, and splashing it around. In his twelfth budget, Treasurer Peter Costello handed back some money in tax cuts, put some money away for the future, and promised to continue to manage the economy well. But there’s still a lot of money left over. This year the budget surplus stands at $10.6 billion and many pundits say there’s more where that came from. But where should we direct that money? Which sectors?)
AV 300 INS.C
Insight: “Bratz, bras and tweens” (No longer little kids, and not yet teenagers, tweens - those aged six to eleven - have become a lucrative consumer base worth $4 billion to marketeers in Australia. While we all know that sex sells, experts are concerned this is now being used to get kids to part with their pocket money. Doctors are worried that products like the Bratz dolls  are sexualising our pre-pubescent young ones at an earlier age. Health professionals are warning there are real risks attached to this phenomenon, such as early sexual behaviour, body dissatisfaction, anxiety and eating disorders. At the same time, others are wondering what all the fuss is about? Weren’t Madonna and Barbie once controversial? Haven’t kids always liked playing dress ups? Or is there a real danger that kids are being exposed to sex too soon?)
Insight: “Hard yakka” (SBS) (Industrial Relations is the current battleground in the lead up to the next Federal Election. But who’s winning the war? Insight will hear from both sides; the employers and the employees, all working with Work Choices. Both parties promise to deliver ’fairness’ with the Fair Pay Commission, Forward with Fairness and the Fairness Test; but who’s really going to get a fair go? Does the Federal Government’s "fairness test" go far enough?)
AV 305.2350994 BIG
Message Stick: “Men’s business” (ABC) (Recently in the media we have seen a political debate rage in regards to sexual abuse and domestic violence within Aboriginal communities. Many members of the Aboriginal community felt that the portrayal by the mainstream of Aboriginal men, and their communities, was sensational, and not entirely truthful. “Men’s business” is a confronting episode where we asked a group of Aboriginal men to respond to the issues raised within the mainstream media, and the result is a very moving and emotional story.)
AV 305.8 RIL
Vote yes for Aborgines (SBS) (Commonwealth Government take charge of Aboriginal affairs, effectively acknowledging Aboriginal people as citizens within their own country. When the British government colonised Australia, they completely ignored the original inhabitants, declaring the land empty of people - terra nullius. From then on, Aborigines were treated as non-citizens and denied the rights that others enjoyed. While many people believe that the 1967 Referendum gave Aborigines the right to vote, it in fact removed two sections of the constitution which discriminated against Aborigines.)
AV 305.9 TAL.2
Compass: “Raising the flag” (ABC) (What is it about a flag that raises such powerful emotions? Until recently, Australians wore their patriotism lightly. Yet, suddenly, the Australian flag is everywhere - some have been using our flag to emphasise their patriotism, some are even using it to state that they are more Australian than others.)
AV 306.89 DIV
Divorce Stories: “Breaking up” (People are interviewed to find out why they married and why their marriage ended in divorce.) / “Conflict” (looks at conflict and how, when relationships break down irretrievably, people are often forced to resort the legal system to reach a compromise.) (SBS) (DVD)

AV 331.7009 WOR.3
The Worst Jobs In History: “The Victorian era” (History Channel)
AV 333.8 CRU
Crude (ABC) (DVD) (From the food on our tables to the fuel in our cars, crude oil seeps invisibly into almost every part of our modern lives. It is the energy source and raw material that drives transport and the economy. Yet many of us have little idea of the incredible journey it has made to reach our petrol tanks and plastic bags. Crude takes a step back from the day to day news to illuminate the Earth’s extraordinary carbon cycle and the role of oil in our impending climate crisis. Nearly seven billion people have come to depend on this resource, yet the Oil Age that began less than a century and a half ago could be over in our lifetimes.)

AV 338.4 AIR
Air Australia (ABC) (DVD) (Australia’s aviation history.)

Inside Australia: “Footprints in the sand” (SBS) (A story of love for family, country and culture. Geoffrey Stewart is a wiry, good-humoured Martu man born sixty years ago at an extremely remote location in the Gibson Desert, 600 km northeast of the town of Wiluna. It is over forty years since “Yullala”, as Geoffrey is better known, has visited his birthplace. Footprints in the Sand tracks Yullala and members of his community back to that location. It is an emotional journey, whose significance lies not only in the length of time that has elapsed since visiting his birthplace but, also, in Yullala’s particular parentage.)
AV 362.84 GRO
Grow strong (SBS) (DVD) (Aboriginal children are often affected by anaemia, poor nutrition, frequent chest infections, and chronic ear and skin infections. This documentary looks at how the effects of these health problems and poor access to health care has a continuing impact on the physical, cognitive, social and educational development of Aboriginal children. This program offers models and ideas for communities on what can work for them in the area of Aboriginal early childhood development, and how some communities are managing these problems.)
Keep safe (SBS) (DVD) (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are three times more likely to die from injury than other Australians. The causes for these injuries range from violence and domestic violence to substance abuse, alcoholism and negligence. This program offers models and ideas for communities on what can work for them and how some communities are managing these problems.)

Meanwhile, just outside Berlin the cameras start rolling on one of the biggest propaganda films ever planned by the Nazis: “Das Leben geht weiter” - a film intended to show how the German people cope and retain their spirit through the destruction and horror of their everyday life, struggling through to the promised victory. The premiere for this film was planned for the end of June 1945, two months after the war was lost. This is the absurd and often tragic story behind the making of “Das Leben geht weiter”)

Crafted more than 2,600 years ago, this funerary stele was unearthed in 1994, smuggled out of Egypt and eventually sold to a wealthy Manhattan collector. The FBI got involved and returned the artifact to Egypt last year. Along its journey in the illicit antiquities trade, the stele passed through the hands of a notorious British smuggler, an ambitious New York art broker and some of the top dealers in Ancient Art. Autonomous city-states emerged and these tiny republics began to revitalize their cities and build on a massive level not witnessed since the rise of Rome. In the late 15th and 16th centuries, alliances among various city-states continually shifted as foreign superpowers tried to sink their claws into Italy. The masters who are best known for creating the works of art and architecture of the Renaissance, were also the greatest military and civil engineers of the time.)

Australian Story: “Cry me a river” (ABC) (Australian Story lifts the lid on a clash of ideologies over the future of some of the most spectacular and pristine areas of Cape York. Aboriginal leaders Noel and Gerhardt Pearson claim their own conservation record speaks for itself. But they say former allies in the green movement have sidelined the needs of Indigenous people of the Cape in a struggle over the region’s rivers. At issue is Queensland Government legislation designed to conserve "wild rivers", including 14 rivers on the Cape. The Pearsons accuse The Wilderness Society and the Queensland Government of riding roughshod over indigenous interests, and putting at risk the pressing economic, social and health needs of Aboriginal people. The Queensland Government says it is seeking a balanced outcome. The Wilderness Society says it recognises the needs of Aboriginal people but the conservation issues are of global significance.)
