About Year 7 Mathematics
Students in Year 7 are in graded Mathematics classes - 7M1 through to 7M7. Students in 7B are a middle school class and are in this class for all their core subjects. The students in this class have been placed there so the school can provide the best programs and education to those students.
Students in classes 7M1 through to 7M7 follow the same Mathematics program based on the Stage 4 Mathematics Syllabus. Students in the higher classes will also be given the opportunity to explore extension work within topics whilst those students who are in the lower classes will be given the opportunity to work at a slightly slower pace and to relearn areas of work they may have missed in earlier schooling. The 7G class is a remedial class which generally follows the Year 7 program but which also spends time strengthening students basic mathematical skills.
About Year 8 Mathematics
Students in Year 8 are also in graded Mathematics classes - 8M1 through to 8M8. There is also a middle school class - 8G. The same teaching and programming principles are used in Year 8 as they are in Year 7. Students in higher classes are given the opportunity to explore extension work whilst those in the lower classes are provided with the opportunity to relearn work they have missed in earlier schooling.
Parents wanting more information on the Stage 4 Mathematics Syllabus can find it on the Board of Studies Website.
